Pinterest, Guest Suite, & a book.

Just last week I joined the new craze called Pinterest. I must admit at first I was kinda confused but now I am hooked! I love how I can just save all my inspiration photos to my boards and be able to trace where I got them from which comes in real handy with this blogging thing!:) I have several boards started but the one that has the most Pins is my guest bedroom inspiration board. I am on the quest to tone the guest suite down and to make it flow better with the rest of our home just in case we do end up selling next summer. It is ALWAYS best to get a jump on that kind thing instead of waiting.

I have had this inspiration pic actually saved to my desk top for like ever and had to hunt it back down for my Pinterest board. I LOVE the feel of this room and that head board is to die for. My other inspiration pics which are on my board but I am not going to post here because I have not asked permission is from Dear Lilly! I LOVE Jennifer's blog and her home is beyond AMAZING! I just do not know how she does it all and keeps up with her beautiful baby girls and a photog business and a blog! Major Kudos to her!!
I just fell in love with The New Nursery. This space is truly a master piece  and thus I am now on a quest to make our guest suite just as inviting and comfy and magnificent if that is even possible! Yes, I am proud to admit that I am on a copy cat challenge of course minus the baby crib and all!;) I hope that Jennifer does not mind!

This led me on the hunt for bedding which I have been looking at for months. I LOVE the Simply Shabby Chic line at Target. It is all girl all the way! So last night I ran up to Target because I talked The Hubster into loaning me the dough to purchase the new bedding because well it was on sale and I have yet to sell the current bedding. He agreed and so I stood in Target with Oldest & Littliest patiently waiting...well as patient as any 7 and 5 yr old boy would be in the middle of a bedding isle with girly bedding can be who where also holding their new Transformer DS games....trying to decide just what way to go. After abt 15 minutes Oldest said "Mom just buy it all and bring back what you don't want." I said brilliant idea son! I must be teaching him well!;)

This set came home minus the dust ruffle which they do not carry anymore and which I do so need. 

This set came home as well.

And so did this linen duvet because well I liked the ruffled shams!:) Needless to say The Hubster was not all that thrilled that I came home with all of these though I knew exactly what I was doing and would be returning most of it. The sale was over Sat so if I waited or picked the wrong thing I then would have to wait months for it to go on sale again. With the pressure mounting I ended believe it or not returning it ALL an hour later after purchasing it and can you believe it I purchased something entirely differ!!?? I came home and The Hubster just shook his head. What can I say other than he HAS to love me cause well he signed the paper work almost 10 years ago!:)

You will just have to wait to see what I actually did bring home!:) I am now working on what to get for the guest bath!

Oh and this book also jumped in my cart while at Target! So far a very good read. SUPER funny!

From Drab to Fab!!

Welcome, so glad you decided to stop by! I am joining in on several linky parties this week  because  I am soo excited to share with y'all my laundry room. Why my laundry room you may be wondering!? Because it is the keeper of a fabulous piece I just finished giving new life to! If ya wanna see how our laundry room looked like before you can go here. It is quite a transformation on a very little budget and with really very little effort involved.

This is my fave doorstop ever! I purchased it at HobLob in the clearance isle sometime last year. I think I paid all of $3 for it. 

These are my drying racks. The builder did not install any sort any hanging rod so I had to come up with my own. I saw this on another blog and a light bulb went off. I had to have them which again come from HobLob. 

The top of the cabinets are still being fluffed but I think I have a good start on it. My lil bird house came from Cracker Barrel back in the summer. It was suppose to have ended up outside but the tree it was going on was chopped down by the power company. 

Loving my lil' trey. I still need to make a label for the detergent though.

Here is what ya saw when you first walked in the laundry room that is after I kicked the cats to the curb. Well not really the curb! I would never do that to my furry babies. They relocated upstairs to a rarely ever used bathroom. I think all parties involved are much happier now. I was SOOOO tired of seeing the automatic pooper scooper every time I walked in here that I HATED walking in here.

This area I am still working on as well. I actually will be raising the shelf up some and placing two wrought iron hooks below it to hang extra hangers. And what is that at the bottom you may be wondering? 

Why it is this beauty that I purchased last week from the local yard sale site. I hunted for almost two months for a dresser that was the perfect size. It needed ALOT of work and even had some water damage but nothing a lil' ol paint couldn't hide!;) See those wooden knobs? I spent almost thirty minutes trying to get the one off. Needless to say I gave up and they all met the fate of a hammer which went much much quicker!

Here is what she looks like today!! I am soo thrilled to have this piece done! I actually set a record by having her done and back in the house within three days of buying her! Usually I hem and haw and debate on what I want to do with a piece but I knew exactly what I wanted to do with her which made the process go very smoothly.

At first I attempted mixing up some paint samples I already had to achieve a yellow. Well it came out more like butter and so the next day I went to SW and purchased a sample size of Midday. I used the dry brush technique and just brushed it  on lightly to give it a subtle two tone effect. After that I used an antiquing glaze that I purchased at HobLob for less than $2 with a coupon.

Even though the top shows sooo much wear and tear I decided to just sand it down and re stain it with some walnut stain. I wanted to keep some of its old charm.

I went to yes HobLob yet again in search of some knobs yesterday. I was originally thinking glass vintage looking knobs but some lady form out of town was literally grabbing up almost every knob she could put her hands on because one they were half off and two she did not have a HobLob. Part of me was soooo irritated at her cause every one I wanted she grabbed but then the other side of me completely understood and would have being the same thing! It all ended well because I am just loving the knobs I did come home with!

I decided on the bottom to do a contrasting knob. They are very heavy and a steal at just $2.50 a knob! Not quite sure why the lady was not grabbing these up but glad she left um alone!;)

So there ya have it y'all! A tour of my laundry room and newest revamped addition! I can not tell you how  much I am LOVING the dresser in here!! I literally do abt two loads a day now! Well okay I do one load and fold it while the next dries and waits to be folded till the next day. So I guess one and half loads!;)

AN boring to better, dresser, laundry room, Metamorphosis Monday

Foyer Metamorphosis

This was our foyer back when we first moved in last year. Oh the possibilities it held!

This is what our foyer transformed into late last night at the witching hour!;) I was stewing over my island fiasco and helping The Hubster kill a wasp that our furry children had noticed buzzing abt in the window above the door. After he almost toppled off the ladder it dawned on me where to put that adorable little HomeGoods table I purchased a few weeks back off of the local yard sale site. The coat rack use to sit on the opposite side and I really loathed the fact that it was the first thing you saw when you walked n the door. Now it is nicely concealed behind the door but still in the perfect spot to catch the coats.

This is were my awesome pumpkin sign that I won from Paula over at Castle & Cottage ended up! All I need to do is add some pumpkins and it will be good to go. Thanx again Paula for such a great giveaway! 

And here is that adorable lil' table. I added some music sheet scrap book paper to the  shelf in the middle  to add some extra charm to it. The lil' picture frame will soon become a lil' chalk board reminding me to go to the mailbox everyday. I seem to forget abt that most days since we have a community mailbox instead of a single one in our yard. Of course Pedro had to rest at the bottom. The possibilities for this lil' table here are really endless. I am looking forward to decorating it for the seasons. I am already pining for an outlet to go close to where she resides so I can put a little lamp on her or even my antique ceramic Christmas tree. Wink wink to the Papa Bear!;)I get giddy just thinking abt it all!:)

Here is what the bench looked like after I stole the decoration from the frame to put in the office.  Trust me when I say the shoes have been much much worse.

This is the newly organized bench area. I cleaned out the coat closet which  stores all of our shoes on a closet organizer I had used in the nursery when the boys were little. We shall see how long the shoes stay put up. I am really loving the signs but not digging the circle in the frame but it will do for now.

Master Bath Shelf Reveal

Hope this post finds ya'll doing well this week! Many heartfelt prayers go out to those affected by the tremendous flooding in TN and the oil spill in the Gulf. I can not even imagine what these people's lives are like right now. We have been thru two hurricanes so I guess I can imagine a bit but I know what they are going thru is 100 X worse. Again many prayers and hopes that the oil spill will not reach the beautiful shores of AL and FL and that they can find a remedy for the situations at hand quickly!

Now with all that said here is the big reveal of my shelf from last week!

Here is the picture of my inspiration done by Rhonda over at Blue Creek Home that I lusted over for sooo long! I love her entire bathroom! Go on over and tell her hey if you have not met her before!

Here is my $7.99 find from GW that Littliest and I found last week. Drum roll please.....

Here she is. Not quite in all her glory. My idea was to find faux ceiling tin to put on the back so that is why I finished it kinda sloppy. Nobody was suppose to ever see the back of it. Well the tins were not quite wide enough and it would have cost over $60. So that idea was a no go. Then I thought abt embossed wall paper but did not want to have to go thru the trouble of busting out the paints again and trying to match um up. I will share in a moment what I did come up with though. I did the same as Rhonda did and drilled holes in the side and used a cafe curtain rod so I could hang some towels from it. Stole the curtain rod from our breakfast nook that I still have yet to finish the cafe panels for. Shame on me I know because it has been almost a year now! I told you I really do have OCD and ADD! Ha!

Anywho, here is the view looking in from our bedroom. See that rug down there? Believe it or not it is was only $12 at Costco and ours only had one. We hunted down the other one at another Costco on the other side of town the day we went back to our Costco...across town in the other direction...to see Ms. Paula. Again thanking The Hubster for being soo patient. He knows once I get something in my head it has to be or I won't be happy and I HAD to have another one of those rugs!

Here is an up close pic of the distressing that was involved. The knobs I already had and are from HobLob. I had them to hang our dining room curtains with but have yet to paint that room so I figured I would go ahead and put them to good use. I can always get three more the next time they are 50% off.

I have been hunting down some towels for awhile now that would be only for looking at and not touching! HA! I just could not find any until the other week when I was in HomeGoods. They definitely made me HomeGoods happy! The design on them matches the rugs soo perfectly!! I had purchased the regular size bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. They are kinda thin though and pull rather easily so I took the bath towels back and kept the hand towels and wash cloths since again they were just for looks anyways. Thankfully the hand towels are odd in the fact that they are super HUGE for a hand towel unless of course you are the jolly green giant. With that being said I was able to use them and the wash cloths for display on the curtain rod. A normal bath towel was too big and thick but again this is all for looks!;)

Now that I had that taken care of I was still obsessing over the back of the shelf and what on earth I was going to display on the shelves. The next day after hanging it up I went to HomeDepot in hopes that they had something but nope. So off to HobLob. Oh how I love HobLob! They always come to the rescue and you can not beat the prices!

So here is what the trip to HobLob resulted in. Can you guess what I am using for the back of the shelf?? Yep, it is just plain old scrap book paper but humor me a lil' and tell me it looks soo darn real will ya!?;) Eventually I will redo the back of the shelf but for now I think it looks pretty good. I still need a few nick knacks though. The scrap book paper was half off as well as was the Relax sign which was just $4! The mirror I found in the 66% off clearance isle and was just $13! I just love it.

A full view. That pedestal in the corner I purchased off of the local yard sale site MONTHS ago and was actually getting ready to list it myself but it just popped in my head to use it there. I will take ya'll on a full tour of our bath once I get it all completed. It was done TOTALY on a penny pinching budget!

I still need to come up with a replacement for this. It is from our BR house. I think I am just going to purchase a plain old white sheet and make something for it.

Then I have not one but two of these in the master bath. I HATE them and they are in every bathroom in the house. Did I ever mention for some reason the builder thought this house needed 4 and half baths!!?? Why on earth I will ever know. I do limit which ones are used due the fact that the maid...me... refuses to clean them all!

And as if I was done, here is my next project! The Hubster and I got in a little tiff so I hauled this baby out to the garage...determined not to ask for help... and took my frustration out on her. She is almost done so be sure to stop back by!

P.s So the word HATE was a strong one abt the light fixture. It is an okay fixture but I do not like the metal thingy part on the globes. The silver just does not go with my flow of things in there. I am though keeping this fixture in our guest bath but with new globes. I think it will work in there.

AN master bath, Metamorphosis Monday, Shelf, WhooHoo Wednesday

Do It Yourself Day...

It is Tuesday again...well almost and I am joining in on the fun over at Kimba's and Susan's. My project this past week was creating a wreath for our front door. She has been naked since the first week of January and driving me insane. I had perused the isles of HobLob and well nothing inspired me to make my next wreath. Even the Hubster complained that the front door was naked! If The Hubster was complaining I knew something had to be done. I decided to make a burlap wreath that I had been seeing a lot of around blogland. I considered it more of an indoor wreath but figured why not for the outside as well. Here is what I came up with.

All I used was a hanger of course. Then probably three yards of burlap cut into 4 inch strips a yard long. I have seen directions for less yardage but when I looped the loops randomly mine never seemed full because the burlap would just smoosh down on itself once I held it up. I then had some left over red gingham ribbon from the holidays and decided to hang it up using that. I added two gingham bows as well but thought it needed something more so I stole decorations from what use to be my Valentine tree...decided to forgo it this year....and just wrapped the red berries and mini rose garland around it. I think it turned out pretty nice. I knew though once I looked at it hanging up there that The Hubster first words would be "Why did you hang up a Christmas wreath!?". Yep, that was the first thing he said when he walked the the front door that day! I had to point out the mini roses!:)

This may very well be my project for next week. She keeps staring at me expecting me to make her more beautiful.

She thinks she can look like this beauty but I am very intimidated by this project even though I have all the supplies to get going on it. Turns out I know who owns that beauty and they have their house up for sale so I emailed um asking what they did. I won't be able to paint the mirror above ours even though I know it would make it just perfect because well it goes to our dresser in the master bedroom but I think if I could just take a leap of faith and just do it our surround could easily look just as good. I hope! Check back next week to see if I actually get the nerve up to tackle it! I do know I will be finishing up my accessory rearrangement.
