We have had this piece since the beginning of the year. |
It has been hiding out in the garage in desperate need of some loving. Why I was ever possessed to work on it in 100 degree heat I will never know. Let me say I will NOT be doing anymore pieces till fall unless they can be done indoors. It is just too hot. |
Reason why I HATE my mouse sander. Ended up hand sanding most of that out. |
Popped open my Duck Egg chalk paint. I LOVE me some duck egg! I orginally wanted my base color to be Chateau Grey but I really think my can is bad so I held off on using any of it. |
Top re stained and one coat of duck egg. I would have loved to have just finished this piece with duck egg but it would not have gone right in the room this is for. |
So on top went Old White. I will be honest and say it took two coats. Not sure how anybody can get good coverage with just one coat unless maybe they use a sprayer. |
I then used a medium grade sand paper and lightly sanded the entire piece. I LOVE the fact that you can easily sand away any imperfections in the paint job! This and the fact that I did not have to sand the entire piece before painting make this paint great! |
Here is the final result. I used a clear wax and then my Jacobean wax. Let me tell you that if I had not already had experience painting furniture this process would not have gone so smoothly. It is a very time consuming process and once you start waxing you have to continue. |
If you are going to use a light wax and a dark wax with the chalk paint be sure to NOT put the dark wax on first or you will not be able to get it off. Make sure the area you are working on is fully covered in the clear wax first! If not you may end up having to repaint that area.
I am hoping to be able to find new pulls sometime soon. I may just spray these with some ORB. Not sure yet. |
Hope your weekend was a great one!
