It is "Do It Yourself Day"...

over at A Soft Place to Land. I have always enjoyed popping over at Kimba's looking thru every body's projects. There are always so many wonderful ideas to file away! Today I have decided to join in after months of lurking. Since Littliest has been under the weather I do not have time to make an entire new post for this redo today but I really wanted to join in on the fun. Click here to see one of my most fave re dos that I did recently. For those who have already seen it I promise a new reveal within the next few days. I just finished the fall wreath for the front door!
Thanx for stopping by ya'll and be sure to hop on over to Kimba's if you never have. You won't regret it!

This & That & A Reveal...finally

Happy Monday ya'll! Hope the weekend was good to you and that your Monday has been just as good as well! Other than Littliest being under the weather and me christening the new dining room rug things have been good. The weather was wonderful last week so there was a lot of playing outside which now has come back to get us. Littliest has bad allergies and he is congested in his chest and tries to cough it up. We go thru this at least twice a year so not a big deal but still not great to hear him go thru. Now the rug I have not even taken pics yet for ya'll to see but I promise I will soon! It came in last week from Ballard and is super sweet. Better than I had imagined and well it holds Chick Fil A sweet tea without staining. I was going thru all of our HobLob treasures and thinking abt the chandy in the dining room and well knocked a fill cup on the floor! I was afraid it would stain and go thru onto the floor but nope. Soaked it up and then sprayed water on it and soaked it up again. So far so good. In actuality I am glad it was me and not somebody else. I would have been livid. Now not so much.
The yard sale was Sat morning. I was out there at 7 and it was beyond slow but I expected that since we are way back in the back of the hood. I wrapped it up early around 11 but still made out super well. Well enough to buy a new sewing machine at Costco I had been coveting for a month now with money left over! To top it off I even got a FREE table from our neighbor/Realtor. She was out walking and said she was sitting it out at the curb cause ya know somebody would take it. Well she put it out there and I made The Hubster walk down there because my interest was peeked. I was thinking coffee table. Nope! The Hubster came back and said go down there. I made a bee line down there knowing good and well if I did not somebody would get it. Thankfully it was slow and The Hubster and I carried it down the street to our garage. It is a dark brown with rattan and a VERY heavy glass top. It will become the new desk in our soon to be office! After that find I did not care if I made any more money that day. I was just thrilled!

Now on to the big reveal that I have been promising! Here is the before of our breakfast area in the kitchen. It was a work in progress that I was stumped on. I had hit a road block and liked nothing that I was attempting in there. Then one day it all started coming together.

Remember this beauty? Ha! I had purchased her for just $10 on the local yard sale site with every intention of her going in the breakfast nook. I loved her then hated her and decided to by a new fixture and then after three differ attempts at spraying her I finally found a combination finish I liked....no LOVED.

Here is what our breakfast nook is like now! Still a work in progress but I am so happy with the progress! The Papa swagged my new beauty even though it went against every grain in his body. In the end he liked it though. He said it was the custom chain cover that The Nana and I made that pulled it off. (Sorry the pic is not so great. My camera is acting up and the color is slightly off and I have no idea how to fix it. URGH!)

Here is an up close look at her. I know I am partial but she is a beauty isn't she!? I used Rub N Buff once again on this chandy. Once I used it on the chandy over the sink I knew I had to use it on this chandy as well. Littliest and I just purchased the shades at HobLob today since they were half off. 6 for just $15 ya can't beat.

Now I saw ya trying to peek around the chandy to see what was up with the mistreatments. I had that picture. You know the picture in your head of how you want "it" but just can not find what ya need to make "it" come to reality? That picture. I saw this fab at HobLob and I said yes that is "it"! I bought a half a yard in each and just hot glued the seams and then hammered um on the wall with some upholstry tacks. Still working on the bottom half of the cafe curtains. I have the fab picked out but just have not purchased it yet.

Here is the door panel that The Nana made for me. I could have but I hate sewing curtains. Thanx Nana! I tied a scrap piece of fab in the middle just to see what I wanted and decided that I am going to make a tie of sorts and then place an antique broach in the center. I can not wait till it is all done so I can take a final redo picture.

So there ya have it! Some of what I have been up to. Did I mention how much fun I am having!?

basket case

One day this summer the Goodwill was selling all their baskets for half price. I decided this would be a fun opportunity to pick up some baskets that had a nice shapes to them, but ugly color and make them over with paint.

I got carried away and started painting this one before taking my "before'' picture. You can see it as a long, oval shaped basket.

It was a light straw color.

I wanted it to have a Tuscan farmhouse look. First I spray painted it black and then I dry brushed on some brown craft paint.

The "after" basket.

Here is the next "before" I thought this was a really cute little basket. Unfortunately what this photo doesn't show is the basket was a very orangey brown color.

I decided to give this one a beachy look.

This basket took six different paint applications before I got it to look the way I wanted it too. Luckily I like to paint.

The final basket. I really liked the metal on the bottom of this one.

The top however also had a very orangey tone to it.

I decided to do a shabby chic/beachy look. (does that even make sense?)

I used a piece of raffia to tie a starfish Christmas ornament to it.

round patios

Fall is when those of us who live in Las Vegas finally get to come outside and enjoy some wonderful weather. I love, love, love circular patios. I am going to pour myself a glass of lemonade and enjoy!

Delirious

Yep, that pretty much describes me right abt now. Nothing like getting over a bug and then attempting to scrounge around the house so we ...I....can participate in the community yard sale tomorrow. The Hubster has informed me that it is ALL me and that he is not helping. He HATES yard sales. I thought that I would jump start sales and list on the local site. I stayed up till after midnight answering questions and marking stuff pending pick up. Midnight use to be early for me. I am a night owl in real life but with having to get up at 6 am every morning midnight and later kicks my butt these days.
As for jump staring sales I indeed have. I am not sure though if I should have just waited it out or not. People have been coming by since 8am this morning so it has been like having an ALL day yard sale of sorts. Very tiring indeed. I still have a fewstragglers yet to come. I think the latest is 7:30. That is pj time for us around here.
I am struggling on selling our foyer bench. Well our old foyer bench. The bench we purchased 7 years ago to go in the foyer of our very first house. The house we built from scratch. She has spent many years in our foyer at all three houses now but I wanted something a tad bigger for the new house. Something a little more french country. Love the new bench but still am torn on what to do with the old one. She has been the plopping spot for many baby pics every Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She has given us some great pics.
Why is it we become so attached to items? I keep telling myself she is just a bench. A silly old bench that needs to be primed and painted. I have nowhere for her. I even tried her on the landing for the stairs under the window and she just did not look right there. She currently sits in the front office waiting her fate. Should I sell her or should I put her in the closet till I find somewhere?? I just do not know. I could use the money from her to buy something differ but nothing that will last 8 years and have so many memories. It is not like she will ever be antique quality that will be passed down from generation to generation. She was a $60 bench at Target.

One of those fave pics. Not our kid but our good friends. Now that I look at it that snowman is outside for sale. I have no issues with saying good bye to him and we have had him for 8 years. So maybe the bench has just met her fate.....

nursery peek

I decorated wood letters that spell my son's name to hang above his crib. It was really easy to do, except for one part, which I'll get to later and they turned out really cute.

You can find all kinds of wooden letters at the craft store in all kinds of sizes. I got mine from Michael's and they were already white. I painted the sides with green and blue craft paint and used scrapbook paper to cover them. A tip on choosing scrapbook paper is if you buy a book of paper the colors are all coordinated for you.

I traced the letters on the back of the paper. Doing my best to line up the pattern the way I wanted it to look on the front. This paper has pattern on both sides so it's difficult for you to see that I've traced it. Cut it out and then just decoupage it on. I used modge podge.

Here is the finished project.

Close ups of the letters so you can see the cute paper.

I had to cut out the "I" twice so the pattern lined up nicely.

Okay, here's my confession, the letters were really difficult to hang. I had lots of nail holes to fill in and paint over when I was done. I now realize that I should have measured from the ceiling down.

Another project I did in the nursery is change this lampshade. The theme for the nursery is woodland creatures so when I found this faux bois style lamp at Target I fell in love. I chose this linen lampshade to go with it (also from Target). But I was not crazy about the beads going around the bottom.

I clipped of the beads and trimmed it out in some cute ribbon using fabric glue.

Blue is perfect for a baby boys room and I like how the chocolate brown stitching coordinates with the dark brown lamp.

she does it again

Well her staff anyway.
I love the cover of the October issue of Martha Stewart Living magazine. An enchanted forest made with pumpkins and squash. Too cute.

More Martha goodness. Or maybe I should say greatness......

Will someone make this wreath chandelier for me? Pretty please?

Stone walls, oh how I love thee....

The colors of these pumpkins....too cool for school.

some lovelies

Wow, I just realized today is my one year blogaversary. About a year and a half ago I didn't even know what a blog was. Now I am madly in love with my new hobby. Why? Because the women in the blogging world totally rock!!!!! I'm sorry I don't have anything special planned for my anniversary, I've been sick this week. I plan to do a give away in the near future. Anyhoo, please to enjoy these lovely images from Skona Hem.
