Ottoman Class with Metamorphosis Studio

A few years back when I was helping out at The Old Oak Cottage I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer of Metamorphosis Designs Studios. At the time she rented a space at the cottage and so we became good friends. Jennifer is beyond talented and I always enjoyed watching her work on her projects.
Some of her recent creations are fabulous handmade ottomans.
I am not talking just your average everyday ottomans but fabulous one of a kind creations.
You may recognize Jennifer yourself from over at Miss Mustard Seed's blog. Marian featured one of Jenn's fabulous Union Jack ottomans not too long ago.

Since the cottage days Jenn has moved on to her own space. Besides offering up her one of a kind creations she now also teaches classes on how to upholster a chair, to even making your own ottoman from scratch. The other weekend I was able to leave my men for the day and attend  her ottoman class.
Come on along and get a glimpse of my day!
The Hubster was very worried about this part. He made me promise not to cut off a finger or hand. Luckily for him Jenn said we were not allowed to operate the heavy duty power tools due to liability but she explained to us the process and showed us what to do.
The class was perfect for beginners who had never been around a power tool.
Jenn explained everything step by step and even shared little tips like how to mark your drill bit with a piece of painters tape so you do not drill too far in.
There were three of us attending the class. This is Ella and she was from Atlanta, Ga! Ella was in Austin for work and so she drove all the way to Houston to take Jenn's class before flying back home the same day.
This is Nancy and she lives in Southwest Houston but drove the hour up to take the class. She has two little boys too. It was so much fun meeting the ladies!
We were introduce to all kinds of helpful tools like this one for pulling your webbing tight. I need to get one of these. It made life so much easier on my hands.
Even though we were not allowed to use the saw we were allowed to use the staple gun and other high tech tools like a turkey carver. Yes I said turkey carver!;) It works perfectly for cutting foam.
Jenn was super thorough showing us exactly what to do. Here she is showing us how to achieve the perfect corner with our fabric.
This is Ella's ottoman. It was the first one to be completed because we sorda talked a lot during the class and ran behind schedule. Ella had a flight to catch. I love the Ikat fabric she brought to make her ottoman.
I think we all had a lot of fun during this class.
Ella had to take her ottoman home as a carry on so Jenn made a make shift tote for it. Found out during class that Ella actually has two spaces at The Queen Of Hearts in Alpharetta. I am trying to get her booth name so if you are in the area you can stop by and shop. I am gathering her spaces are top notch! When we are home in the summer I hope to be able to stop by myself.
After completing your ottoman Jenn has you sign it and date it.
Such a fun reminder of the day!
I loved the bright and cheery fabric Nancy brought for her ottoman! Just looking at it you can't help but smile. Nancy had her son's award banquet to get to so she completed her ottoman next.

Since we ran over on time I was not able to complete mine but I was alright with that. Jen had been so gracious to allow me to take pics and I knew the other ladies had places to be at a certain time. I just live down the road from Jennifer's studio so we agreed I could just come back and finish mine since it was so late and my men were waiting and wanting dinner.
I was able to get my feet done though. A custom finish with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint which Jenn now carries.
Since I was having to come back I asked Jenn if it was ok to pay extra to jazz my ottoman up a little bit. The class was just for making a basic ottoman. She agreed so I contacted her in-house embroider Cathie who is making me something special to go on mine.
Here is where I am at on my ottoman. Stay tuned because  this week I am going to be finishing up my ottoman and I can't wait to share it with y'all!

If you are or will be in the Houston area I highly suggest you check Jenn's class schedule and see if you can work one in. You will be so glad you did!
