All Because Of A Tablecloth!

This is what I have been working in the past few days as well as other projects. The cabinet we have owned for 9 years now and it use to sit in our foyer. It came from Ikea. I always wanted to do something to it but never did. I was  too chicken and when we moved it ended up in my sewing room for fabric storage. If you remember from a previous post I was hard headed and moved it on my own with a hutch on top and busted the leg off the back. The Papa is in town and so the cabinet came downstairs to get repaired and so it HAD to be painted while it was down here.

WARNING: You may need to wear your shades to view the following pictures!:)

You may be thinking oh my how scary and to tell you truth I was thinking the exact same thing when I opened this up. I could not believe I was actually going to be using this color.

Doubt still lingered but I charged on with the faith that all would end well.

Decided that was just too much Sherwin Williams Nervy Hue 6917 so I added some SW Vanillin to the middle of the doors. I also used Vanillin as the base coat.

The hard part begins. I always hand sand everything even though I own a palm sander. The palm sander always clogs up and leave marks I can never get out.

After some distressing I added some stain to tone down the Nervy Hue and also to add some more aging to the piece.

The neighbors all think I am crazy I am sure since I carried this piece out of the garage by myself with camera in tow to take pics. The sun actually makes the color off but further down you can see the true color.

I love how the top turned out.

Aren't these the coolest knobs ever!?

Here let's get a closer look. They are from HobLob and a whopping $7.99 a piece but this week half off so in my cart they jumped! In this pic you can see the true color of the cabinet.

And just in case you are wondering why on earth I chose Nervy Hue here is the pic of my inspiration. I hit the color pretty dead on to the April Cornell tablecloth turned curtains in my sewing/craft room. That was a HUGE relief!! Now all I need to do is let it finish drying so I can take it back up stairs and put the cream hutch back on top. If ya wanna see the curtains you can go here.
Hope your week is going well! I have been super busy so I have not been blog hopping lately but promise to stop by soon!

A Rough Reveal

Okay so I shared this pic earlier in the morning of a beautiful April Cornell tablecloth that I found at HomeGoods this week. I knew I HAD to have it for my sewing/craft room!

Before any gasps, I did say this is a ROUGH reveal. My mom cave is not even close to being blog worthy yet but I wanted to share what I made with the table cloth. Ignore the pink sample paint. It is a little flamingo and I need to find a softer shade.

Tada! Here are the finished panels I made from the table cloth which I might add I actually made in a day and a half and not two, three months later! Ha! I actually purchased four table cloths. Two sets in two differ sizes since I was not sure how long I needed the curtains to be and not sure if I wanted to spend the money on two full table cloths or not to create fuller panels. Well sensibility won out and I decided to use just one table cloth and cut it in half to make two panels and sewed the sides back up. Yes, I would have loved two fuller panels but I just could not justify to myself spending $50 on curtains for in here.

I went to HobLob yesterday looking for some type of hanger and came home with this. The Fleur de leis curtain clips were on clearance and they only had one pack but it worked fine for me. The hanger actually matches the chandy I purchased a while back for in here but have yet to decided what to do with. Now once the walls are painted pink the clips may go white as well or the hanger may actually get painted to match the clips. Not sure and the important thing to me was to just get the panels made and hung.

This print really does makes me just smile every time I go in here. They distract your eye from all my messes going on!;) I loved this table cloth even more because it has a boarder to it and the border is actually sewn on all around and not just printed so it adds a little bit more something special to it.

And here is my assistant who is addicted to open windows. I was actually taking a pic to show ya how the panels puddle on the floor. Oh and as an extra there in the corner on the floor is that chandy just patiently waiting.
Hope y'all are having a wonderful week and thanx for stopping by to share in my  excitement over a table cloth! It truly is the little things that make me happy which is a total plus for The Hubster!

Reminder & Thanx!

First off I wanted to say thank you to all of my followers and welcome my new friends as well! This past week I have picked up I think almost 10 new pals which to some I am sure is not a lot but to me it is and I am ever so grateful and humbled that ya'll choose to spend time visiting my lil' ole blog. Thank you so very much!

Reminder that tonight at midnight central standard time is the deadline to enter my April Cornell giveaway. Just click on this link and you can read all about it. If you entered be sure to check back in the morn to see who won and also join in on my next giveaway!

Today is a busy day but a beautiful day! The humidity was almost non existent this morning and since I can not get my lawn guys to weed the beds like they are suppose to I just did them. If I did not have so much going on Littliest and I would be out walking right now! Today I need to finish up some orders and get them packed up to ship later today or in the morn. The Nana & The Papa have begun the 14 hour journey to visit us so we pray they have a safe trip! We can not wait to see them tomorrow around lunch time. Speaking of which I need to kick the boys out of the guest room and back up to their room so I can tidy the guest room up for the rents.
I also need to finish cleaning a few bathrooms, vacuum, clean the wood floors....the list could go on and on and I have to admit I am a teeny tiny bit obsessive when it comes to having house guests even if they are family. There have been times though that I have succumb to defeat and have not been able to get everything done I want thus resulting in laundry lying in a huge ole pile in our bedroom. Laundry done this time around but the swagger wagon still needs cleaning out then again maybe somebody will want a frito or some popcorn for a snack! Ha! Oh and we also have our first soccer practice tonight! Whew, I am getting tired already just reading this.
Have a great day ya'll and I can't wait to draw a winner!!

Happenings & a Giveaway!

Happy Friday ya'll! We have had had a busy week trying to get ready for school in between Oldest still having some episodes. He is sooooo much better now during the day but our nights are pretty rough. Most nights we are up till 1:30 am or later with the burning feeling in his feet and hands. Today we are going to go and get some peppermint foot rub and see if that helps to "cool" them off. He tries so hard to go to sleep and even when he is asleep I can still see his feet moving all around. My poor baby!
Yesterday we ran up to The Woodlands. The boys like to get their hair cut at some place in the mall and so we drive the 30 minutes up there. I use to cut their hair but I got tired of cleaning up the mess and figured it was good for them to get use to somebody else doing it.
While waiting for our turn we went to Bath & Body to stock up on soaps. Their 5 for $15 or 7 for $20 deal is going on. We usually stock up abt three times a year. We just love their soaps and antibacterial gel because well I am a major germaphobe! Altogether we purchased 14 so that will take us thru November when the holiday soaps are out.

The Hubster said I need an intervention when he saw all of these! HA! Not really. Yes, we have several pumpkin soaps but only because they did not have the regular pumpkin soaps out yet and I did not want to wait! Am I the only one who has gotten out there spiced pumpkin candles already and have them lit!? Ha! I am soo ready for cooler temps and fall weather! The leaves are already falling but only because the trees are soo thirsty with it being 102 around here. Ugh!

Anyways, I ended up getting these for free! I was splitting my purchase up in to two transactions and well I then qualified for a free bath wash with each one! WhooHoo! It made not having a coupon all the better!
Tonight we have open house for Oldest! I still can not believe I have a 1st grader! Where does the time go!? We are very excited to check out the new school but still a little sad that all of our friends will still be at the old school.
So that is that. Now on to something fun! Remember a few weeks ago when I shared my new obsession!? If not you can read more here. The boys and I were in HomeGoods earlier this week and guess what I came across!? Yep, that's right! I found another April Cornell book AND Annie Sloan book!! So I will be giving them away to one lucky reader...well two really since they are two separate books... just as promised! WhooHoo!

New Obsessions

Hey ya'll! Hope your Monday is going well! We have had a super one. Not too many Mondays are but today was a good one. I sold my first key fob/wristlet so I was tickled!:) We ran errands and I found some wonderful pieces for my sewing room! I will share those soon I promise but for now I want to share with you my new obsession!

In the past three days I have purchased not one but two decorating coffee table books. I am truly obsessed with these two! Ha! I look thru them over and over again and just dream abt the possibilities.

My first purchase was this one by April Cornwell. I love her use of color and patterns!

Look at that beautiful bedroom! The pictures and illustrations in this book are amazing!

This is her living room. Again all the color I love.

This is what caught my eye the most abt that room though. I love the transom window she has hanging up in her window.

I also love her dining room! See that Tudor style window back there behind the plates? Well it got me thinking.

This is a pic of our living room windows. They are pretty tall and yes there are three of them but The Hubster was already sitting in his chair and playing on his Ipad refusing a pic so you will just have to use your imagination abt the third window. I was wanting to do bamboo shades but then after I saw those pics I decided I want to either hunt down old stained glass transoms at a bargain price..yeah right...or have The Papa help me make a faux tudor style window. It won't have the glass in it, just the framing for one. He does not know this yet so shhh for now!;) Ha! Not sure it can be done but if it can I plan on hanging one in each window and then....

doing a second set of sheer panels below the faux transoms like in this pic from over at Beyond The Screen Door. I LOVE Sonya's blog!!! She has sooo many window treatment inspirations it is not funny! After seeing all of them I now think I may have to go out and buy extra yardage to add to mine so I can do a double pouf like this as well. Not sure how to double pouf but I will figure it out. Sounds like a Nana and me project!;) So now I am on a mission!

As if that was not enough inspiration I found this book today!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! Did I mention how much I LOVE this book!? Ha!

Look at this gorgeous layout! It just makes ya wanna drool doesn't it!;) Annie Sloan is marvelous! I told The Hubster we have to move to England so I can go to her shop and take her class!

This book is fantastic because not only does she share her words of wisdom on how to create the French look in your home she also gives you step by step directions on how to achieve some of her painting techniques! She uses chalk paint and wax! That's it! I am so in love with this book that I went straight to Anne's website to see if it was even possible for me to purchase any of her paints and believe it or not with a few more bibs sewn I can probably do it! I can not wait!!
So there ya have it! My new obsessions! Ya got any?
