We just finished a very interesting series at our church called "Satan's Plan to Wreck the World" For six weeks we learned about the lies that Satan uses on us and in turn learned what God's truth is for our lives. I'm going to post them on this blog because it's something I want to remember and be able to check back and make sure I'm not being sucked in to any of his lies, but living God's truth and His way.
Satan's Lies:
1)Trusting God won't be enough
In Gen. 3:1 the serpent said "did God really say,you must not eat from any tree in the garden?".
The evil one try's to make you question your self and what you know to be true. God tells us to give all of our worries and anxiety over to Him, but how often do we think that our problem is to big to do that. That's Satan telling you that trusting God is not enough, don't fall for it!
2)Avoiding Pain Will Make You Happy
If we've been hurt by people and situations in the past our tendency is to avoid the situation in the future. But, we can't do this. Hiding away in our homes is not the answer. Prov. 18:1a He who separates himself seeks his own desire.
3)Having It All Will Make You Somebody
To often we place our self esteem in our appearance, our home, our children, our car. If we look like we have it "all together" then people will admire us and then I can like myself. Instead we need to have our identity in Christ. Jn 15:14 says if we obey God He will be our friend. Isn't what God thinks of us more important than what those around us think?!
4)Keeping to Yourself Will Make You Safe
Satan wants you afraid and he wants you to hide. 1 Jn 4:18 a There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.
5)Satisfying My Appetite Will Fill Me Up
Satan' s plan is that you have an appetite that cannot be satisfied.
Prov. 27:20 talks of the eyes of man never being satisfied. Ecc 6:9 says "enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don't have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless; it is like chasing the wind. "
God's plan is to satisfy your soul. Mtt. 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
6)Putting Yourself First Will Get You Everything
It's amazing how this Sunday morning series has tied into my Thur. morning ladies bible class . They are not planned at the same time. On Thur. our speaker said some things that I have to admit I did not like hearing."People do not have to meet your needs" and if that wasn't bad enough "People don't have to do things your way" . A friend of mine joked "please don't anyone tell my husband and kids that!" I have to say these two things were really hard for me to hear, I do want things to be my way. I think my way is the "right" way to do them. But here's what God had to say to me. Phil 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 1Cor 10:24 Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. Mtt 16:25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Mtt 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first will be last.
Ouch! It is painful at first to think of having to always put others first, we (me) are selfish. But, then I have to remind myself of God's promises. John 10:10 tells us 'the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; but I (Christ) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Do I want a full, abundant life! Yes and yes again. Then I need to remind myself daily to put away pride and to claim humility, for isn't an abundant life worth trading momentary, petty selfishness?!!
