Sometimes the little things can make such a big difference. I've had these two topiary from Target for many years. This picture doesn't show it well, but the pots are a yellowish beige. I was looking at them recently and decorating inspiration hit!
I love this picture from House Brautiful. If I were to paint the pots of my topiaries white, maybe I could achieve a similar look.
You can see the color difference now. First I had spray painted several coats of white paint (always letting it dry throughly between coats). Then I added some black antiquing polish to give it an aged look. I went waaaay overboard with the black detailing. I should have taken a picture to show you. So I started spraying them again and a happy accident happened. The black turned to gray and I really liked the way it looked. I was done with the project. Yeah!
The completed pots. Unfortunately the bright light in my family room doesn't allow you to see the gray aging technique very well.
I am very happy with the results. I feel like I have new topiaries and I spent zero money and just a little time. In fact I did the antiquing of the pots on my lap while browsing blogs!
