Earth Day Vases

Today is Earth day so I decided a fitting project to celebrate would be making vases out of garbage.

Well not really garbage, but stuff that gets tossed in the recycle bin, of course. When I tire of the vases right back into the bin they'll go.

I made the first set of vases out of tomato sauce and paste cans. First step; remove all the labels.

For this vase I used Mod Podge to attach pieces of an old book to the can. I then tied on a simple homemade label.

This can was sprayed with Rust-Oleum Heirloom White spray paint (is spray paint enviromentally friendly?) Next I wrapped the middle with a scrapbook paper scrap and placed a sticker in the middle. I finished it off by wraping the bottom of the can with twine.

This can was the easiest. I used a rubber stamp to place the image of a tree onto butcher paper. Wrapped the paper around the can and taped it in the back. I then used distress ink on the top and bottom edges of the paper.

For my next set of vases I used empty jelly jars and a chilli sauce jar. Soak them in really hot water to get the labels off. Then I used a sponge with that scratchy stuff on one side (don't know what it's called) to scrub the rest of the glue off.

Cute little deer vase and.....

Cute little bunny vase!

The jelly jars had a raised detail on them. I took some craft paint and just rubbed it on with my finger.

I then used a rubber stamp right on the jar. I drew in the grass with a sharpie.

Romantic birdie vase.

I found both of these sets of tags at Walmart. The round tags are with the office supplies. The oval tags were with all the scrapbooking stuff.

I got these beauties from Amazon. LOVE!

I think this is so pretty!

Reduce-Reuse-Recycle
I got the tray at Goodwill, so it is reused too!
