I absolutely love the look of vintage trophy's.
But they are very hard to find and usually come with a hefty price tag.
So when I found this plastic trophy at Party City I thought it would be fun to attempt a make over.
I started by giving it several coats of French Linen chalk paint.
My four year old got very upset when he saw this and informed me that he liked the trophy better "shiny".
:(
Next I used a stencil brush to "pounce" on some white craft paint.
I went a little over board, but that is ok.
The whole point is to build up layers so that your trophy has patina.
A little more French Linen and it is looking better.
Next I used some dark gray craft paint.
You want some of the colors underneath to show through, thus giving the trophy the look of being tarnished.
Finally I mixed some black craft paint into a dollop of furniture wax and applied it to the trophy
with a paper towel.
After the wax drys (which happens very quickly) I buffed it with a rag, so there was a slight sheen, which is appropriate for a trophy.
Now all that's left to do is have fun moving around your house.!
Not bad for $5.00 + paint.
But I did promise Levi I would go back to Party City and get him a shiny one. :)
