I always like to do at least one craft at Easter time.
This year I thought it would be fun to decoupage images from napkins onto paper mache eggs.
I already had these paper napkins with beautiful images of lavender on them and thought the lavender pictures would look really pretty on Easter eggs.
When you buy the paper mache eggs they are brown and a little rough textured.
I painted my eggs and when they were dry used some sandpaper to roughen up the paint a bit.
I like the rustic look, but you wouldn't have to sand them if rustic is not your thing.
It's ok not to cut out your image perfectly as long as your egg color matches the color of the napkin because it will soak right in as you are using the Mod Podge.
The background of my napkins is white so on this aqua egg I needed to cut out my flowers very carefully so the white wouldn't show.
Your napkin has two layers, but you only use the top layer.
Put some Mod Podge on your egg, lay on the picture and put more Mod Podge on top.
I like to use the matte Mod Podge because I don't like things too shiny.
If you like more shine then get the glossy Mod Podge.
I should mention when putting the top coat of Mod Podge on I did one whole side of the egg and then when that side was dry, I turned it over and did the other side.
Ok, I'm really feeling like my directions stink so if you'd like clearer instructions here is a link to the Martha Stewart website http://www.marthastewart.com/266690/paper-napkin-decoupage-eggs
They do a much better job than I am.
I'm still not quite sure how I'm going to display these in my house.
Maybe I'll just line them up on my kitchen windowsill.
I found this cute little trophy at an antique mall this weekend.
It was a copper color but I slapped on some white paint.
I knew it would be the perfect size for holding Easter eggs.
I got these ceramic egg cups from Jo Anne's a couple of years ago.
Please enjoy a few (wink) more photos....
My friend Heidi gave me the most beautiful vintage Easter postcards and like I mentioned in this post she didn't even know I was using lavender in my Easter decorating this year!
I've been trying to find some cute frames to put them in so I can make an Easter vignette, but have not been having any luck finding some. :(
I have a few more days to look I guess.
Here's what the paper napkins I used looked like.
I bought them at Stein Mart last spring.
