Iron Beds & The Guest Bedroom

This is our guest bedroom. Notice the lack of headboard. It has been that way for two years now.

This is how the room looked before I decided I wanted to go a different route. I had painted in red our door headbard that The Hubster and I built 10 years ago.
Big mistake! I attempted to strip it over a year and half ago and well it STILL is sitting out in the garage waiting to be finished.
In comes this beauty that I found for sale on our community FaceBook page. My heart skipped a beat. I was not sure it was going to work but for $40 and the offer of them bringing it to me I figured it was worth a shot.
I was delighted that it actually fit! This piece is just what this space needed. I am sure the GPs will enjoy having a headboard again!;)

I like the finish on it and it goes well in the room. Later on down the road I may decide to chippy it up to make it look vintage.

Now if I can only find a different bedside table and finish this little corner up. And yes, I do see the alarm clock on the floor!;) Oops.
As for the headboard out in the garage I think I will finish it up and use it for Oldest once he graduates from a twin bed.

New Bedding

Last night I was able to get the new bedding put on the bed so the B&B is now open for business once again!

When I saw this plaid blanket at Target a few weeks back on clearance I knew I had to have it. I wanted to add a few masculine touches to the room and I figured this was the perfect piece. And no I did NOT pay the cat to sit on the bed. Max just thinks that he should be in all the pics lately!:) He was no where to be found till I got the camera out.

The quilt is from Target part of the Shabby Chic collection. I love the design on it.

Just a few accent pillows you have already seen. I can NOT wait till the head board is done and back in the room.

Since the head board is giving me all kinds of fits with stripping it I have pretty much decided to make it look a lot like this one.

I am dreaming about Sonya's Double Ruffle Box Pillows!! I think I really NEED me some for the bed!;) If you have not been over to Beyond The Screen Door I suggest ya pay Sonya a visit. You will not be disappointed! I wish I could sew as well as her or at least could have her as a neighbor!:) I could pay her to show me some of her tricks of the trade.

A few of you have been eye balling another new addition to the guest bedroom that I have failed to mention.

I purchased a lot of odds and ends a few months back and in that lot were not one but THREE sets of antique wood shutters! I was just waiting to find something to do with them and then  over the weekend it dawned on me to hang a set on either side of the window in here. They were already stained and work in the room just fine so one less thing to have to do. I am hoping to get them hung this weekend as well as the new curtains.

Thanx for stopping by! I hope that your week is going well thus far. Hard to believe it is almost half over already.

Bed Skirt On a Budget

Hope the week started off well for everybody! The boys were home sick today (Monday)!:( We were up all night with coughing and congestion. No fun but thankfully we were able to get in and see the doc. Nothing major just our twice yearly crude we deal with. To say least I was plum wore out by this afternoon when we got home. I was ready for a nap but knew that was a bad idea so I made myself finish up yet another project for the guest room.

Since I was redoing the bedding in the guest room I was needing an 18 inch long bed skirt. All the ones I was finding were way out of my budget so I decided to make one instead! I found this fabulous faux linen like fabric at HobLob which was just $3.99 a yard and I had a 40% off coupon so this project was definitely in my price range.

The bed skirt was actually a bit of a challenge for me one because I had never sewn anything this large before and two because I do not own a ruffler. I had made one side which took forever!! Then I attempted the second side and the thread kept breaking half way thru. I was ready to give up but thankfully the ladies on my  FB page chimed in with some helpful hints on how I could make my ruffles without pulling the rest of my hair out! I ended up using dental floss to create the ruffles and it worked fabulously! ( Thanx Mandy!) I was also told fishing lure would work well too! I basically just used the previous bed skirt as my pattern for how long my ruffle should be width wise.

I had two sides completed so today instead of napping I finished up the last side and then pinned the sides on to the box spring. Yes, you read that correctly!:) I just pinned the panels on the box spring so I did cheat a tad but you would never know unless I told you.

I just love Osnaburg fabric because it has a faux linen quality to it and the frayed edges to me just add to its allure. Ms. Pat at the cutting table thought I was crazy when I mentioned what I was doing with it. She had never heard of such a thing!:) To be honest I really have no idea what this fab is used for.

I just love how this layer of the guest room turned out though! If I had purchased a bed skirt similar to this in queen size it would have been well over $100 and I made it for less than $40!

Next up the rest of the bedding and then...

to finish this mess up!! What on earth was I thinking!!??

I spent the entire day Sunday trying to strip the headboard. I was going mad to say the least! My original idea was to strip it and then use steel wool on it soaked in Apple Vinegar to give it a natural aged look. I had high hopes! Now though since I have put the new bedding on the bed and have seen the entire look pulled together I should have just taken the easy way out and primed over the red and repainted it!! So  now I am left to clean up the mess I made for myself and if anybody has any tips on how to make my life easier on this project they would be much appreciated!!

Thanx for stopping by and stay tuned for even more guest room progress!

New Paint & A Reveal!

Here is the new guest room in all of it's Antique White glory! I am in love with the new color in here. Though I liked the cottage blue that use to be in here Antique White makes the space so much brighter and airy. The red headboard is out in the garage waiting for it's transformation. I can not decide if I want to strip it or go the easy route and put some Kiltz over it all. With the room being painted I can now focus on the fun part which is adding all the things I have been purchasing over the last few months for this space! The largest of those purchases is over there in the corner. Yep, that is the armoire that The Hubster bought me back in August for our anniversary. It is finally completed and so happy to be in it's new space! Come on and take a closer look.

Picture this piece as a late 1970's early 80's creamy and gold armoire. I could have left it that way. Honestly it was not that bad but if you know me I just could not hold myself back. It screamed "Paint Me!". So paint it I did. I used my beloved chalk paint in Chateau Gray and Old White. I toned the grey down with equal parts of Old White.

I used clear wax and then dark wax to add definition to the piece. It was the first large piece that I have ever waxed and honestly next time I will do less dark.

I just love the curvy lines this piece has!

I kept the original hardware because honestly anything else would have taken away from the piece. I did however  use some Old White on the hardware and then sanded a tad off to make them look old and worn.

Here is the inside! I am in the middle of making some panels for the doors and was going to wait till I was done for the reveal but HobLob was out of the material I am using. I have one door panel done so I figured I can just do another post once I finally have both completed.

This will be the perfect place to house a t.v. for our guests. Thankfully we will not have to wait long to get one because The Nana & The Papa just upgraded their bedroom t.v. to a larger one and so their old but pretty new t.v. will be coming to our house! Thank you Nana & Papa!

Not sure if you remember but I had attempted to transfer some really awesome numbers onto the drawers but it did not go well at all and so I resorted to ordering these adorable antiqued number cards from an Etsy Shop. Even better I think because if I ever decide I am done with the numbers I can just take um off and not have to repaint the drawers again.

I lined the drawers with this beautiful swirly paper but I am debating on whether or not to replace it with old book pages or script paper. Not sure though.

So there have it! The whole reason the guest bedroom was repainted was just for this armoire!:) I am tickled with how it turned out. I have never painted a piece as large as this before so it was a little intimidating. Thankfully all went well though.
Hope all is grand and thanx for stopping by!

B&B Closed

Sorry but if you are inquiring about a stay at  our B&B we are temporarily closed due to remodeling. Don't worry I am not attempting a new design statement. Just needed a place out of the way to put stuff.

Say good bye to the blue....though still a very pretty color.

And say hello to Antique White! Liking it a lot already!

Hope your Monday has been as productive as mine! Thanx for stopping by to visit!

One Thing Leads To Another

Hey y'all! Sorry I have been MIA a lot lately! I have been super busy! Of course there is the normal kids, school, house, and job but I have also been working on some other projects as well. The armoire is finally done and has been moved into the guest room. I am still NOT ready for a full reveal though... I know such a tease... because well I did not like the back drop blue walls in there. The walls were totally throwing off the color of the armoire and thus began the process of choosing a new paint color for the guest room. I mean I could have asked The Hubster to drag it out into the yard so I could take pics but I am sure you can imagine how that conversation would have gone!:)

So last night I went digging thru my MANY sample paints from SW and after three attempts ended up with Hopsack. I really really liked it but it was dark and so I had to wait and see till morning.

Well morning came and I HATED Hopsack. It just was not the color I was going for and I felt made the space feel too small. So here is the final verdict! After school the boys and I picked up two gallons of SW Antique White and thus I have started the process of painting the guest room all so I can take pics of the armoire for y'all!;) Here you can see also see a few of the goodies I have purchased for the room.

She is one of my most fave items!! Not sure where she will end up in the room but I do love her!

And as if that was not enough I started playing out in the garage again with the slightly cooler weather we have been having all because I started this project! It is to highlight my items for sale for the local folks and if all goes well I may end up renting a space!:) Who knows though where it will lead.

So there ya have what I have been up to! What have you been up to?
